In this chapter Odysseus goes to the palace disguised at a beggar. At the palace Odysseus beats up a suitor and drags the suitor by his feet, tells him to scare off the swine and the dogs. Everyone crowds around them and laughs. They offer the winner to take goats and everyone agrees to this idea. After Odysseus had beat the suitor he went and made libations and drank the wine. Athene decides to put an image in the head of Icarius' daughter that Penelope should appear to the suitors. Aphrodite came and made Penelope very beautiful and this made all the suitors weak at the knees when they saw her. Everyone decided to agree to Telemechus' suggestions and wine was poured and everyone drank for a while and then respectfully returned back to their homes.
